Every year, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI of MN) presents CotY (Contractor of the Year) awards to members who have demonstrated outstanding work through their remodeling projects. This is the highest form of recognition by industry leaders and peers. This year’s event had a total of 102 entries.

Judging is based on problem-solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, and degree of difficulty by an impartial panel of industry experts.

This year, EdgeWork entered into four categories and took home four awards! Our team received two gold awards (first-place finishes) and two silver awards (second-place finishes). Our awards are as follows:

  • Gold: Residential Exterior $50,000–$100,000
  • Gold: Residential Bath Under $25,000
  • Silver: Residential Interior Element Under $30,000
  • Silver: Entire House Under $250,000

Our team is beyond thrilled with the results of the 2019 CotY Awards! We want to thank all the suppliers and tradespeople who were involved with these incredible, award-winning projects. We look forward to helping more homeowners create unique home remodeling projects like these.

Our team made some significant, yet sensitive changes to this 1952 midcentury-style home. We updated the entire exterior, maintaining half of the existing roofline and expanding the second floor with a contemporary flat roof, increasing the square footage on the second floor. The rear expansion involved changing a jalousie porch into an expanded dining room and kitchen. The flat roof over this area hosts an upper deck, perfect for private entertainment. Structural finesse with hidden steel beams supporting this allowed for an open plan in lieu of the existing small rooms.

The homeowners’ existing main level guest bathroom was outdated and cramped, in need of a major makeover. With the future in mind, the homeowners wanted a bathroom with enhanced accessibility. Aesthetically, our clients desired to transform the space to match the midcentury nature of the rest of the home. Our design-build team achieved these goals by expanding the bathroom with an accessible curbless shower, in-floor heat, concrete trough sink, and unique waterfall stonework in both the shower and sink. With these functional and aesthetic improvements, the clients will be able to enjoy their bathroom for years to come.

The homeowners’ living room fireplace was dated and they wanted it to have the same flair as the rest of their newly remodeled home. We suggested an update to their traditional, wood-burning fireplace that would be more energy-efficient. Our designers created a distinctive concrete fireplace face overlaying the existing stone with LED color-changing lighting. The main fireplace component was converted to a power-vent gas unit, while the façade became an extraordinary centerpiece of the first floor.
